About
Resources for Learning, Teaching, and Playing Board Games
Cardboard Appendix is a reading companion for board game rules. Each game has a set of authored pages — a rulebook, a summary, a glossary and a book index — cross-linked to each other and searchable within that game.
What we think is cool about Cardboard Appendix
-
One box, one rulebook, five people
The oldest problem at a table: the rules are a physical object and only one person can hold them. Here everybody has the whole book, at once, and nobody has to ask for it back.
It prints, too — so the person who prefers paper can still have paper.
-
Every rule has an address
Not a page number that changes between printings — a permanent link to the exact rule, that you can paste into the group chat mid-argument. Try it:

-
Find it without knowing where it is
You do not remember whether it was in the rulebook, the summary or the glossary — you just remember the word. Every section, term and rule across every game is one index. This is the real one:
-
Build the reference you actually need
Bookmark the four rules your group keeps stopping to look up, and they are collected onto one page for that game — in the rules' own order, the whole section, not a link to it. A player aid you wrote by reading.
-
Read it the way you read
Serif or sans, bigger or smaller, tighter or looser, light or dark. Rules are dense enough without being set the way somebody else likes them. These buttons change this page as you press them:
Starting with the player holding the start marker, each player in turn order either bids or passes.
How it works
- Every section has a permanent anchor, so a link you save keeps working.
- Search on a game’s page only ever returns results from that game.
- Bookmarks, favorites and reading settings live in your browser. No account, no server, nothing uploaded, no tracking.
- Which also means they stay on one device, go when you clear your browsing data, and are deleted by Safari after about a week without a visit. Reading preferences will download a copy of everything, and read one back.
- Every page is laid out for print as carefully as it is for screen.
